RESOLUTION No. 63

RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE HEARTFELT APPRECIATION OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE PEOPLE OF MALAYSIA LED BY PRIME MINISTER MAHATHIR MOHAMAD AND DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER ANWAR IBRAHIM AND THE INSTITUTE FOR POLICY RESEARCH-MALAYSIA, FOR HONOURING OUR NATIONAL HERO, DR. JOSE P. RIZAL.

Whereas, our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, has been acknowledged by the people of Malaysia led by Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad to be the first Asian to set the standards in the struggle to restore human dignity and self-respect to subjugated peoples all over the world;

Whereas, Malaysia Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim suggested the holding of the seminar on Dr. Jose P. Rizal after he visited Manila early this year upon nothing that Rizal had fought not only for the Filipinos but also for the Malay race;

Whereas, the Institute for Policy Research-Malaysia, hosted the two-day International Discourse and Exhibition on Dr. Jose P. Rizal and the Asian Renaissance in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in honour of our national hero in response to Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's suggestion;

Whereas, the Malaysian seminar intended to put in proper perspective Dr. Jose P. Rizal's role in this history of Asia, and thus strengthen solidarity among nations in this fast-growing region;

Whereas, such an event hosted by a friendly neighbour country has inspired the nationalistic sensitivities and uplifted the pride of the Filipino people in Dr. Jose P. Rizal who has been considered as one of the greatest sons of Asia and the "Hero of the Malay Race";

Whereas, it has reminded the younger generation of Filipinos, born under a democratic environment, of the past struggles of their heroes in the fight for freedom: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, To express, as it hereby expresses, its heartfelt appreciation to the people of Malaysia led by Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and the Institute for Policy Reseacrh-Malaysia, for honouring our national hero, Dr. jose p. Rizal.

Resolved, further, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to Malaysia Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the Institute for Policy Research-Malaysia.
